What is Gift Aid?

Using the Government's Gift Aid Scheme means that for every pound you give to Living Streets, we will receive an extra 28 pence from the taxman - at no extra cost to you.

For example:
  • if you donate £15,
  • the taxman will add £4.23,
  • Living Streets will receive a total of £19.23

How does it work and do I qualify?

Anyone who pays UK tax can make donations under the Gift Aid scheme. You will pay tax on your income, your pension and your savings, so most people qualify.

Any donations to Living Streets can be under Gift Aid, as long as you pay the same amount - or more - in tax that is being reclaimed on your donation in the financial year.

So if you give £3 a month to Living Streets this would amount to £36 in one financial year.

If these donations were under Gift Aid the amount that Living Streets would be able to reclaim would be £10.08 across the year.

Therefore you must pay this amount or more in tax across the year for it to qualify.

If you are a higher rate tax payer then you are able to reclaim the tax from your donation. All you have to do is remember to include details of your charitable gifts on your tax form.

Also, since April 2003, higher rate taxpayers are able to reclaim tax relief from donations paid to charity both during the previous tax year and during the current tax year - meaning that the relief is paid much faster.

What you need to do

Whenever you make a donation to Living Streets please remember to tick the Gift Aid box. This will enable us to reclaim the tax on your donation from the tax man.
