What our clients say about our consultancy services

Choose how you Move in Worcester
"As a compact city, there is significant potential for more people to choose walking for short journeys, benefitting both their health and reducing local traffic congestion. We have been pleased to work with Living Streets to investigate ways in which we can improve the environment for pedestrians and so facilitate behaviour change. " Cat Ainsworth, Worcestershire County Council

Living Streets carried out a Strategic Review of Walking in the City of Worcester to guide future investment as part of the The Choose how you Move project, which is one of the Department for Transport's Sustainable Travel Towns.

Living Streets also conducted a community street audit in a suburb of Worcester, which focused on routes to a local parade of shops, school, health centre and church. The audit brought together local people and stakeholders to identify existing problems and opportunities to improve the local environment.

Linking Campus and City in Preston
"Living Streets has played an important part in assessing the current barriers to walking and in making suggestions as to how we can make things much better in future" Janet Wilson, Lancashire County Council

Living Streets conducted an audit of routes between the University of Central Lancashire Campus and Preston City Centre as part of a CIVITAS funded project. The audit brought together staff, students and local residents and also involved the local primary school. The audit report has resulted in funding for improvements to the public and private realm thanks to the partnership approach adopted.

From Community Street Audit to Street Pride in Wansbeck
"From the audits conducted in Bedlington we have progressed many of the recommendations. A steering group (resident and trader representatives that participated in the audits) was formed, therefore ensuring community engagement throughout the whole process - from the street audits to implementation of improvements."
Richard Schofield, Wansbeck District Council Regeneration Team

Living Streets carried out a community street audit with local people thanks to funding from the Wansbeck Initiative, the Local Strategic Partnership. As a result of the Community Street Audit improvements are taking place in Bedlington Town Centre including new seating, litter bins, signage, planters and improved pedestrian crossings to make the area even more attractive and safer for residents, visitors and shoppers. £450,000 is being invested in Street Pride in Wansbeck, which was developed after officers were trained by Living Streets. A £1M Townscape Heritage Initiative bid has been submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund by Wansbeck District Council and the North of England Civic Trust.

Walking Maps and Walk Doctor in Sutton
"I have heard only good things about these maps! Everyone said what a good idea it was. We want people to enjoy the simple pleasure of walking which 20 years ago or so we all took for granted. Lunch time walking maps show everyone working in Sutton just how easy it is to enjoy a 30 minute walk around some of our most interesting sites, taking in natural habitats and places of interest.

Weekend maps are great for everyone - short, easy walks on your doorstep which encourage families to get together for an activity - shared quality time as well as travelling towards better health!"
Sandria Lewindon, Workplace Travel Plan Officer, London Borough of Sutton

Living Streets was commissioned by the London Borough of Sutton Council to produce a series of walking maps and organise a Walking Day for the Smarter Travel Sutton project, which is funded by Transport for London as a Sutainable Travel Town Pilot.

The Sutton Walking Day encouraged local people to increase the amount that they walk, for their health and the environment.
The event included the following activities;
  • a 'Living Streets 2'Walk Doctor' to offer walking advice
  • free foot treatments by Scholl shoes
  • stalls by community groups
  • a walk at 12 noon
  • 6 free limited edition weekend and lunch hour maps produced by the London Borough of Sutton and Living Streets
  • face Painting
  • Billy Bileashas on Stilts
  • juggling

More Testimonials
"I have undertaken many so called 'audits' but nothing like this. Everyone who took part in the project agrees that we all look at streets differently now".

Annette Stevens, Neighbourhood Manager for One Voice.

"Our Audit was an extremely worthwhile project. It identified a whole host of issues, previously overlooked. The Audit gave us the basis for a programme of improvements for pedestrians."

Andy Kirkham, Chief Planning Officer, Aylesbury Vale District Council.

"The (Community Street Audit) report was excellent, particularly the recommendations, and has featured heavily in the working group. Getting professionals in was very valuable to us."

Julian Stanley, Transport and Parking Manager, GCHQ, Cheltenham.

"...An amazing piece of work... Living Streets are to be congratulated."

Suzanne Mitchell, Audit attendee

"The Report is excellent. It gives us plenty of food for thought and ways to usefully spend the funding available."

Nick Jeanes, Project Officer, Bath & North East Somerset Council

"I was pleased to be part of the Community Street Audits project. It opened my eyes to problems not previously noticed. It was a good and rewarding experience. Very useful if new estates are being designed. Since then I have been constantly aware of thinking like a pedestrian."

Betty Costello MBE, Cabinet Member for the Environment, London Borough of Enfield

"A stimulating and productive exercise which brought together many of those involved in the design, maintenance and use of public footways. Participants gained a valuable and vital insight into the needs of people with mobility problems."

Madeleine Howe, Access Officer, Aylesbury District Council

"Businesses and town centre users welcomed the opportunity to express their thoughts about the local street environment - nobody had ever asked for these views before... and it has certainly led to a much greater community awareness of the issues and opportunities.

"Our Street Audit report has become a valuable tool for setting the Balham partnership's priorities for investment, for bidding for funds to carry out some of the recommendations and it has provided a robust framework for shaping our plans for future town centre enhancements."

Sue Webber, Balham Town Centre Manager
