Fitter for Walking

A Living Streets branch auditing a local street
A Living Streets branch auditing a local street

Fitter for Walking is a brand new project to help residents in five areas of England create streets they can be proud of. It's funded by the Big Lottery Fund, along with contributions from local councils in each of our target areas.

We all hear a lot about the need to increase the amount of exercise we take, and for busy people the best answer to that can be leaving the car keys at home and walking more as part of their daily routine.

But to do that, we need our streets to feel safe, look attractive, and be looked after with people in mind. Often it's simple things that can make a huge difference to how we view our streets - whether clearing up a particularly useful walking route, starting up street parties, or running campaigns to get parents walking the school run.

We now have Regional Co-ordinators in post in four of the regions. They are looking for project ideas, so if you live or work in these areas and have an idea, get in touch!

Fitter for Walking is part of a group of projects that will be helping 2 million people nationwide become more physically active, by regularly walking or cycling as part of their daily lives. It is funded by the Big Lottery Fund's Wellbeing Programme.
