In recent years, people have been squeezed out by encroachments on their pavements and
public spaces by buildings on one side and traffic on the other. The existence of clutter on
pavements add to the problems - particularly when the street user is elderly or mobility
impaired. The use of pavements by some cyclists and parked vehicles has also contributed
to reducing space available to people on footways.
